The characters, beautiful in their fascinations, annoying in their weaknesses, and desperate in the desire of closeness, make the story a universal, permeated with humanism message.
Roma is 15 years old. She lives with her father - Andrzej. The two main characters, in spite of a need of emotional closeness, live separate lives, next to each other; he - in the reality of science, the rules and emotional coldness; and she - in the world of dance, teenage rebellion and longing for parental interest. The girl's life changes at the same moment, when a homeless man appears in the neighborhood and finds shelter in a crumbling building. The teenage girl shows symptoms of a disease worryingly similar to the one her Mom developed before she died. In Roma's life, the difference between reality and the unreality blurs. The fates of the homeless man and Roma seem to be interdependent. When he is hurt, she suffers physically. The girl becomes convinced that the homeless man is her injured Guarding Angel trapped in a human body. After another collapse, Roma lapses into coma. Andrzej, under the influence of fear for his daughter's life, wants to become a part of her world so much, that he denies everything he believed up till that moment. In the heat of the moment, he tries to build his relations with his daughter anew.

Roma ma piętnaście lat. Mieszka ze swoim ojcem. Pomimo wzajemnej potrzeby bliskości żyją obok siebie, on pochłonięty nauką, pryncypialny i chłodny emocjonalnie, ona - w świecie tańca, młodzieńczego buntu i tęsknoty za rodzicielskim zainteresowaniem. Życie bohaterki zmienia się z chwilą przybycia bezdomnego mężczyzny, który lokuje się w pobliskiej ruderze.

Niespodziewanie u nastolatki pojawiają się symptomy choroby, niepokojąco podobne do tych, jakie poprzedziły śmierć jej mamy. W życiu Romy zaciera się granica między rzeczywistością, a tym, co nierealne. Losy bezdomnego i Romy wydają się być połączone. Dziewczyna nabiera przekonania, że bezdomny to jej okaleczony Anioł Stróż, zamknięty w ciele człowieka. Po kolejnej zapaści Roma zapada w śpiączkę. Jej ojciec pod wpływem lęku o życie córki próbuje na nowo zbudować ich wzajemne relacje.
